Let’s look at a few of the gorgeous and current tiling trends you’ll want in your home right now!
When looking to upgrade your kitchen or bathroom, you can’t go past the most effective and budget-friendly option of tiling. Per square meter, the cost of introducing tiles into these areas can add some serious bang for buck to your home. When we think back to Roman times, we see plenty of tiles adorning palace walls and floors – and for good reason. If installed correctly, tiles not only look fabulous, they’re water resistant and a breeze to clean so let’s look at what’s trending for tiles in 2017.
The Mermaid aka Fishscale Tiles
This popular ocean-inspired trend will take your austere bathroom to beachy sanctuary. Placed in a softly scalloped pattern, you can choose to dive head first into that underwater oasis through the use of greens and blues; or stay beach side and keep things a little subtler employing a white or grey finish.
Rectangles out – Geo Angles in
Even if you’re a fan of the classic subway tile – you can’t go past an eye-catching layout of an unusually patterned tile in white. It can add real personality to a space that you just can’t obtain with the uniformity of the straight-edged rectangle.
Patterned Brilliance
Tile floors blending into the space around them are just a thing of the past; in 2017 make a statement from your feet up by celebrating bold design and artisanship with your floor tiles. And as your floor space is usually smaller than the wall space requiring tiling, flooring is far easier to replace than wall tiles if your tastes change in a few years’ time!
Hot Concrete
You’ve seen it on many a reno TV show; concrete is a hot trend for 2017. Against a patterned tile floor or natural wood elements, concrete can add a sense of ‘New York loft’ to any bathroom. Unexpectedly versatile, concrete complements a wide range of colours and can take on either a super minimal industrial or warm luxurious feel with the addition of metallic finishes like brass or copper and plush towels.
Go Metro
If bold and intricately ornate isn’t your thing; keep things classically simple with the metro tile. Beautifully industrial in their design, you can update their traditional plain linear look by arranging the tiles in a herringbone design – introducing a more modern feel. Or possibly turn them on their head; placed vertically side-by-side, the metro tile will look and feel more retro for those wanting to experience a more 70s vibe.
