From 1959, when a small group of independent Victorian furniture retailers met to form an association against rising competition from large franchised chains, came Newfurn Floor Coverings Ltd. Over thirty years later, in 1993, the Carpet Choice brand launched with 17 Victorian stores. After a further rebrand, this became Choices Flooring, now grown to over 140 stores across Australia and New Zealand—arguably the region's most progressive retail floor coverings group. Newfurn has since become one of Australia's largest private companies, diversifying into Choices Flooring, Style Flooring and Interiors, and Newfurn Property. IBISWorld ranks Newfurn largest in turnover among competitors, meaning members earn more per store than any rival. BRW ranked Newfurn 62nd largest private company in Australia (largest in floor retailing), valued over $500 million.
