Winter- Ready Homes: 8 Tips for Canterbury Residents

5 ways to easily reinvigorate your kitchen on a budget

A full kitchen renovation can be a big investment but if that’s not in your budget right now don’t give up!  We’ve put together 5 achievable and budget-friendly ways you can revitalise your kitchen space without having to go into flat-out demo mode.

1. Kitchen Cabinetry

If you love the layout of your kitchen, but you’re not enjoying the state of the kitchen cabinetry – then change it up with a simple coat of paint!  Painting immediately refreshes the face of your kitchen cabinetry; whether you’re going from dark and moody to fresh and light, or dull and dated to vibrant and modern.  If the colour isn’t a problem, change your view by removing some of your cabinet doors to create a fabulous on-trend open shelving effect and set about displaying some of your favourite dishware and bowls to provide an extra bit of interest.  Or look at replacing cabinetry doors with glass panelled ones – you don’t have to go for clear; frosted glass is perfect for discreetly hiding away that tangled stack of plates.

2. Details details details

Kitchen hardware can add more upscale elegance than anything else.  A simple change out of cabinetry handles can breathe new life into the hub of your home and updating tapware that’s seen better days can instantly bring your kitchen into 21st century. Going for modern, simple and on trend pieces can give your kitchen a recently renovated look.

3. Add a backsplash

One of the best and most cost-effective ways to add some drama to a neutral space.  Whether its tiles, glass, or semi-gloss paint, transforming this small area of your kitchen can provide real bang for buck.  Here the choice is yours, vibrant neon hues, textured slate, classic white subway – whatever catches your eye.

4. Decoration by appliance

There’s no rule stating what to use as decoration in your kitchen, so think of small appliances like pieces of jewellery or artwork for your countertop.  A crisp white kettle or industrial look steel coffee machine all work to create interest in your kitchen space.  You always have the option to move them around or put them away as your mood changes.

5. Let there be light

Literally see what you’ve been missing and update your outdated kitchen lighting. This means getting rid of any fluorescent lighting or other unappealing ceiling lights and replacing them with personality-filled pieces. Think about installing under cabinet lighting or even a countertop lamp for more warmth.  Look at installing task lights like spotlights over your worktops, halogen bulbs on the extractor and overhead lighting for a more ambient lighting of your kitchen dining area.  However, do use a qualified electrician for anything complicated!
